Officials with The City of Hopkinsville announced Friday that, due to overwhelming success, the “Lot Next Door” Program going forward will only accept applications on a bi-annual basis.
The decision follows the fact more than 100 applications have been received in this first round, and in order to appropriately process and execute the documents, officials need time.
Beginning in the next calendar year, the application windows will be open for the months of January and July.
It’s believed this new strategy will allow staff to directly work with residents, in order to effectively walk them through the application process.
The “Lot Next Door” Program is designed to put vacant and abandoned lots back into productive usage, by transferring them to residents who will take care of the properties up to standards of the code.
