Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear was in Dawson Springs Wednesday afternoon to take part in the presentation of a new home to victims of the December 2021 tornado.
This home, like others in the area, was built and presented through the work of various individual and government agencies. Governor Beshear spoke to those gathered for the ceremony, sharing his feelings that those who were victims of the tornado deserved the best in return.
Beshear remembered the night of the tornado and the personal effect it had on him.
He expressed his commitment to rebuilding the communities that suffered as a result of the tornado.
The governor thanked everyone who had a part in building this house and pledged not to stop in his effort to help those who were still suffering from the destruction behind.
The new home was presented to Eliza Watts and Zackory Russell. Watts remembered the night of the tornado and hearing people screaming from the area toward downtown Dawson Springs. She said they had lived in both a camper and a little house since the night of the tornado. She shared that she felt God’s hand had been on her family during the past months and believed it was his way of saying, “He’s got this.”
Watts expressed her gratitude to everyone who had a part in providing them with their new house.
Dawson Springs Mayor Jenny Sewell was grateful for the groups and individuals who continued to work to rebuild their community after nearly two years.
The newly completed house is about a mile from Dawson Springs. It sits on top of a hillside and will be home to the couple and their two children.
