As Sanctuary Inc focuses on Domestic Violence Awareness Month, leaders say they have a new tool to help clients at one of their most vulnerable moments. The domestic violence and rape crisis shelter recently opened its Sexual Assault Forensic Exam, or SAFE, Room. Coordinator, Nurse Practicianer Amanda Sholar says the room is designed to make victims of assault comfortable and help them regain some control over the process.
She adds collecting evidence at the crucial moments does not always lead to charges.
Community Engagement Coordinator Zirconia Vansauwa adds one of the ways they are bringing awareness to domestic violence this month is a PSA featuring 10 men from around the area.
She adds the PSA has been shared on social media and with all governing bodies in the nine-county coverage area. Vansauwa encouraged everyone to join them at half time this Friday during the Christian County-Daviess County football game at the Stadium of Champions for "Speak My Name."
