Thanks to his long-time interest in the community, and no desire to fully retire, a familiar face has returned to the Cadiz Police Department.
Under the direction of new Police Chief Tyler Thomas, Mayor Todd King swore in the former Police Chief Duncan Wiggins Monday morning at Cadiz City Hall.
And the plan is simple. Starting Monday night, he’ll return to the streets of Trigg County’s seat of government — patrolling midnights as a regular officer in a position he first tackled nearly three decades ago.
Wiggins has actually been retired for nearly six months from the city’s most important role in law enforcement, and embraced a little bit of a break with a trip to Iowa on his motorcycle — as well as some honey-do lists at home.
However, he said he had several opportunities in front of him to return to the force — and Cadiz provided the best fit.
Furthermore, Wiggins indicated that filling positions at CPD — and anywhere, really — can be a challenge for several reasons.
Thomas told Your News Edge that Wiggins’ new role was Wiggins’ choice, and that “swearing in” is legally necessary — despite his past.
This is the third time Wiggins has been sworn in by Cadiz officials.
With Wiggins joining CPD, all that remains to be filled is a school resource officer for the district, and another patrol position.
