The Country Ham Show had a fantastic showing at this year’s Trigg County Country Ham Festival, attracting more than 30 entries in the Open and 4-H Ham Shows.
The country hams in each ham show were judged by Ronnie Drennan from Broadbent B&B Foods. According to Drennan, there were some impressive entries in both. He also shared insights into his criteria for judging the cured hams.
click to download audioEvery year, Drennan assists the 4-H kids in curing their country hams so they can carry on the tradition passed down through generations.
Trigg County 4-H Agent Shelley Crawford said they received several entries for the 4-H Ham Show and revealed the winners.
click to download audioShe also announced the top five winners in the Open Ham Show, which included seventeen entries.
Crawford says a lot of festival goers have shown interest in the country hams.
click to download audioThe country hams were on display until mid-afternoon Saturday at the Cadiz Baptist Church Annex and then the winning 4-H hams will be taken to the Renaissance Stage to be auctioned off.
