Newburgh Man, Fort Campbell Woman Win Fifth Annual Hoptown Half Marathon

The Fifth Annual Hoptown Half Marathon and 5K went off without a hitch this morning.

In the men’s division:

Kentaro Yamada, a 33-year-old from Newburgh, Indiana, claimed top honors in the half marathon, running it in 1:15:26. He kept a 5:45 mile for his pace.

AJ Haynes, a 38-year-old from Clarksville, took second with a 1:17:56 and a pace of 5:56, and Hopkinsville’s 22-year-old Rafael Osella took third with a 1:18:41 behind a 6:00-mile.

As for the 5K, Hopkinsville’s 42-year-old William Owen led the podium with a 19:00 finish and a 6:07 pace, while Hopkinsville’s 11-year-old Benjamin Hensley finished second behind a 19:30 and 6:17 pace, and Murray’s 48-year-old Joe Hall grabbed third through a 19:36 and 6:19 pace.

In the women’s division:

Marisa Tinajero, a 24-year-old from Fort Campbell, took the top spot in the half marathon with a 1:36:36 and a pace of 7:22. Behind her, 41-year-old Carole Gross of Gallatin, Tennessee, cross the finish at 1:41:44 and a pace of 7:45, and 42-year-old Kate Russell, of Hopkinsville, pushed for third with a 1:48:03 and a pace of 8:14.

For the 5K, 37-year-old Fort Campbell resident Gloria Freck won with a 23:39 and pace of 7:37. Hopkinsville’s 25-year-old Kailee Jorgensen slashed for second with a 25:16 and a pace of 8:09, and Hopkinsville 10-year-old Gracelyn Clark surged for third behind a 26:41 and a pace of 8:36.
