East 4th Street Fire Leads To Arson Investigation

Authorities are investigating a house fire on East 4th Street Monday after evidence pointed to the cause of the fire being arson.

Hopkinsville Police say they have opened an arson investigation and have a person of interest they are talking with to determine the cause of the fire. The fire was called into dispatch just after 8 a.m.

Hopkinsville Fire Department spokesman Payton Rogers says Hopkinsville Police Chief Jason Newby who heard the call responded and tried to enter the home through the front door but was unable to go very far inside due to smoke.

Newby then reportedly noticed a woman Inside and pulled the woman out of a window on the side of the house.

Rogers says no one else was found inside the home but due to the extensive damage and the investigation, no one will be able to stay inside the home.

The woman was taken by Hopkinsville EMS to Jennie Stuart Health for what is believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.

Rogers says after completing their investigation into the cause of the fire their investigators turned over evidence to the Hopkinsville Police Department.

The fire started in a hallway causing extensive fire damage and smoke damage throughout the whole home.
