Through the revelation of a three-point plan, Judge-Executive Stan Humphries made it clear to the Trigg County Fiscal Court during Monday night’s meeting that key local focuses will be addressed in the coming months.
This, he said, includes major facets surrounding the transportation committee, the building and grounds committee and the emergency services committee, and will involve discussions and plans around the following projects and problems:
1) Trigg County’s need for more chip and seal and paving. With this season’s work nearly complete, Humphries noted that only 20 of the county’s 450 rural and urban miles of road received attention this last go-round, and that with state and federal dollars waning and needs growing, Trigg County would “have to get creative” in order to address derelict paths. An email service, he added, is about to come online, so that magistrates can quickly report, relate and review needed road projects within the community.
2) The Trigg County Recreation Complex. Humphries said there is a great desire for fiber internet to come to this area in order to beef up security in and around the sports facilities, bathrooms, convention center and concession stand. Furthermore, the fiscal court must fully decide on the plans of the bathroom and concession stand renovation, especially as bidding costs and construction prices continue to rise.
3) The new rescue building and the potential consolidation of volunteer fire departments. In a nod to Magistrate Pat Bush, Humphries said it’s time to start discussion with officials about the stresses of Trigg County’s volunteer fire services, while also addressing the potential for a new location and building housing Trigg’s Rescue Squad.
In other court news:
— Magistrates approved a $10,000 expenditure, for the payment of election officers and locations for the November 7 general election.
— Magistrates approved a bevy of re-appointments to various boards of interest for Trigg Count including:
*Linda Tribble and Tara Alexander back to the John L. Street Library Board, set for October 12, 2023, until October 11, 2027;
*Stephanie Perry and Donovan Washer back to the Trigg County Extension District, set for January 1, 2024, until December 31, 2026;
*Scott Bridges and Dale Henderson back to the Barkley Water Board retroactive from January 1, 2023, to December 31, 2026, and Bill Lawrence and Mason Hyde from January 1, 2024, through December 31, 2027.
— Concerned citizen David Love, of the Twin Trees subdivision, brought questions about why his road had been patched before, but not recently in these last efforts from the Trigg County Road Department. Humphries and Road Supervisor Brandon Calhoun urged that his lane wasn’t part of the county road plan, to which Love asked why nearby roads had been fixed.
Calhoun stated those pathways were repaired in order to make district bus routes safer, and Humphries said he and others would review an addition to the road plan. Love said three residents live along his route, and he wondered aloud why he paid local taxes.
Love said he’s lived there more than 20 years.
