The Hopkinsville Committee of the Whole was unable to proceed with any business items on the agenda Thursday night due to the absence of a quorum. Instead, they dedicated the session to listening to quarterly reports presented by the police and fire departments.
In his report, Police Chief Jason Newby provided statistics for the last quarter, revealing that the department had responded to a total of 299 collisions, resulting in one fatality and 63 injuries. He noted the majority of these collisions occurred on Ft. Campbell Boulevard, including the fatality.
Chief Newby reported officers made a total of 697 arrests during the last quarter and confiscated various drugs including the city’s most significant drug concern, fentanyl.
click to download audioAfter sharing the statistics, Chief Newby reminded the six attending council members that the police department, when requesting funding currently consists of 81 officers rather than the previous count of 63 officers.
click to download audioFurthermore, he reminded them that the plan is for the police department to take over all the schools next year, and four of those schools are outside the city limits.
After the police chief’s report, Fire Chief Steve Futrell delivered his quarterly report, highlighting a busy period for the fire department. He stated that the fire department responded to a total of 1,140 fire incidents during the last quarter.
