With weather concerns mounting, officials with Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation have decided to move the HES/energynet Night Christmas Parade from this Saturday to December 16.
The decision has come as a result of the forecast, and its consistent prediction of thunderstorms, high winds and heavy rainfall.
Toby Hudson, Parks & Rec superintendent, said they understand rescheduling a large-scale event like this parade can be an inconvenience for community members. However, the priority is making sure everyone remains safe while having an enjoyable time.
Mayor James R. Knight supports the decision, noting the postponement due to the weather is “the smart choice.” He added that the city didn’t want anyone out in the rain and storms and getting sick or hurt.
According to the National Weather Service, Saturday evening’s forecast calls for showers, storms and gusty winds.
All other previously released information regarding the parade is transferable to the new date. The route, time, participants and road closures will not change. The Community Christmas Tree Lighting will still be held on December 8.
