Kentucky State Police are investigating the death of an inmate at the Kentucky State Penitentiary in Eddyville.
According to state police spokeswoman, Trooper Sarah Burgess, Post 1 received a call from the state prison around 4:10 Friday afternoon advising them that they were performing CPR on an inmate and requested emergency medical services. She says Lyon County EMS responded to the penitentiary and around 4:30 they requested the coroner to respond. At that time, Trooper Burgess says troopers also responded to the scene to conduct a death investigation.
The inmate has been identified as 31-year old Ivan Orantes-Pierce of Louisville. Trooper Burgess says there is no foul play suspected at this time. An autopsy is scheduled for Sunday.
The investigation remains ongoing by Kentucky State Police.
