Trigg County Remembers 30-Year Anniversary Of Collision That Claimed 7 Friends

Friday marks the 30th anniversary of one of the most tragic auto collisions in Trigg County’s history.

On Wednesday, December 15, 1993, seven friends were on a dinner break from Knight & Hale Game Calls and traveled less than a mile. It was on their way back when the vehicle they were in crossed over the centerline of U.S. 68 and collided head-on with a truck.

Seventeen-year-olds Joey Rogers and Steven Wallace, sixteen-year-olds Dale Garner, David Lawrence, his cousin Jesse Lawrence, and Jeremy Gordon, and fifteen-year-old Patric Perry were all killed in the collision.

Almost immediately, the 7 Friends Memorial Fund was created, it later would become the 7 Friends Memorial Scholarship – which has handed out well over a thousand scholarships to graduating seniors at Trigg County High School.

In 2012, the first 7 Friends Memorial Scholarship Golf Tournament was held at Boots Randolph Golf Course. Over the years, it has switched between both golf courses in Trigg County and was again held at the state-owned course earlier this year.

Stephanie Perry, who lost her son Patric, has been an avid supporter of the scholarship fund since its inception.

The 2023 tournament featured 36 teams, with 65 scholarships being awarded to the Class of 2023.
