After 28 Years, Hooks Retires From Light’s Plumbing In Cadiz

For the last 28 years, Sharon Light Hooks has been a permanent fixture for Cadiz and its proud Light’s Plumbing & Electric, Inc.

Retirement, however, finds us all — and for Hooks, the time is now.

Surrounded by family, friends and co-workers during a warm Wednesday luncheon, Hooks was surprised to receive a “Key to the City” from Mayor Todd King.

Alongside King came kind words from Trigg County Judge-Executive Stan Humphries.

Hooks noted Light’s wouldn’t even still be in Cadiz without its faithful customers, and that she wouldn’t be where at this point in her life without her late father, Rev. Bobby Light, and late husband, Larry — who was a master plumber, electrician and farmer during their 43-year marriage before his October 2021 death.

Even now, she wears a framed locket with their picture inside of it.

The next step for the business, she said, is already in place. Cayce Mill Supply, in Hopkinsville, has purchased the building and supplies, and the property will be closed “a few days” while new ownership takes the reins.

Located at 2077 Main Street, she said it will eventually open back up as a plumbing and electrical supply company, with the entire transaction set to complete Thursday.

As a key anchor and matriarch of the Light and Hooks families, she called the last three decades “great, but stressful,” and naturally, she looks forward to the new-found free time.

She laughed, saying she guessed she’d do “what she wants to do.”

She also knows there are going to be days she wants to be back in the working mix — namely because of the overall wonderful experience she’s felt through the years.

As a token of appreciation and gratitude, several co-workers even chipped in together for a small purse of cash — sending her off in the right way.
