Herman Atkins, 94, of Hopkinsville, died at 5:39 a.m. Thursday, January 11, 2024, at Tennova Healthcare in Clarksville.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 13, 2024, at Hughart, Beard & Giles Funeral Home with Rev. David Tucker officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be on Saturday from noon until the funeral hour. Hughart, Beard & Giles Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
A native of Livingston County, he was born June 25, 1929, the son of the late Elmo Douglas Atkins and Euple Dean Finley Atkins. He worked at the Shoe Factory and Barnes Motor Company before going into the United States Army in 1951. After the completion of his military service, he worked for IKT Service for approximately 40 years. He was a member of Second Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife: Loretta Dunning Atkins, who died October 18, 2023; and a granddaughter, Caryl Atkins Henderson.
Survivors include his sons: James Steven (Helen) Atkins of Indianapolis, IN, Michael David (Kay) Atkins of Fancy Farm, KY, and Kevin Ray (Karen) of Lexington, KY; his sister: Sirley Forguson of Arlington, TX; his grandchildren: Logan (Candace) Atkins, Bryan (Courtney) Atkins, Jonathan Atkins, and Kristin (Wyatt) Miles; and ten great-grandchildren.
