TVA Sets Usage Record on Wednesday

The Tennessee Valley Authority announced that the preliminary peak power for Wednesday morning reached a record-breaking 34,526 megawatts, with an average temperature of 4 degrees.

Adam May, a TVA spokesman, said Wednesday morning’s usage broke a 24-year-old record and thanks to conservation efforts from customers, did not cause any major outages.

On Tuesday, TVA reported that heavy snow and frigid temperatures were causing an unprecedented surge in electricity demand throughout the Southeast region and urged customers to be mindful of their power consumption on Wednesday morning.
