Funeral services for 95-year old Helen Bates Gilliam of Hopkinsville will be Sunday, January 28, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at Hughart, Beard & Giles Funeral Home.
Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery.
Visitation will be Saturday from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Hughart, Beard & Giles Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Helen Gilliam died at 11:20 a.m. January 22, 2024 at Christian Health Center.
A native of Christian County, KY she was born November 2, 1928 the daughter of the late John Wallace “Jack” Bates and Ruth Mitchell Bates. She worked at Jennie Stuart Medical Center and the International Shoe Company before going to work and retiring from Western State Hospital. She was a member of Liberty Christian Church. She volunteered as a Pink Lady at Jennie Stuart Medical Center. She also volunteered at the Pennyroyal Mental Health Center, Cornell Memory Care Center, and St. Luke Free Clinic.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: James Vernon “Sonny” Gilliam; her son: David Gilliam; her sisters: Alice “Roney” Ledford and Gwen Bates; and her brother: Larry Bates.
Survivor include her daughters: Charlotte (Michael) Cannon and Sharon Kay (Greg “Jumbo”) Pryor both of Hopkinsville, KY; Keith (Lolly) Buckingham of Louisville, KY whom she thought of like a son; her grandchildren: Caleb (Morgan) Cannon, Harrison Pryor, Lucas Pryor, Jeremy (Tonia) Cannon and Jessica Cannon; her great grandchildren: Aniston, Blakely, Cody (Melanie), Chase (Joey), and Chloe (Brien); and her great great granddaughter: Isabelle.
