A Hopkinsville man charged with assault in a shooting incident last year was sentenced to home incarceration during an appearance in Christian County Circuit Court on Wednesday.
40-year-old Steven Black entered a guilty plea in December to an amended charge of first-degree wanton endangerment, down from a first-degree assault charge, and a charge of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Hopkinsville Police said Samuel Sivils showed up at the hospital with a gunshot wound to his foot last August, claiming he had been shot by Black during an altercation on Vine Street.
During the hearing, Black’s attorney Eric Bearden told the court that his client was the victim of some hardships while he was in jail, including the burglary of his home and the theft of an urn that contained the ashes of a deceased child.
Judge John Atkins handed down the home incarceration sentence with restrictions.
