Kentucky Hunting and Fish Licenses Available

Licenses and permits for fishing, hunting, and trapping in Kentucky for the upcoming license year are now available for purchase.

The 2024-25 license year begins on March 1 and ends on February 28 of next year. The fees for licenses and permits remain the same for both Kentucky residents and nonresidents as last year.

Both license years can be obtained until February 29, allowing late February outings.

In Kentucky, a license covers basic hunting or fishing for various species. However, additional state permits are necessary for pursuing specific species such as trout fishing or hunting migratory birds, deer, wild turkey, or black bear.

Sportsmen-type licenses include multiple permits along with basic hunting and fishing privileges.

A new licensing option available is the resident Senior Lifetime Sportsman’s License, priced at $180. It includes hunting and fishing licenses, as well as permits for trout, deer, spring and fall turkeys, migratory game birds, and waterfowl. This license is exclusively for Kentucky residents aged 65 and older. Once purchased, seniors can carry an electronic copy or reprint each year to display the current license year.

Seniors in Kentucky also have the option to purchase an annual Senior Sportsman’s License, which provides the same licenses and permits for a year at a discounted price of $12. Resident anglers may consider a 3-year Fishing License for added convenience and value, priced at just $55.

Licenses and permits can be purchased online through the Kentucky Fish and Wildlife website’s License Sales portal. They are also available at agent locations throughout the state and the county clerk’s office.
