Sanctuary’s recent Shop and Share program in Christian and two other counties collected over $3,500 in grocery and monetary donations for its 24/7 emergency domestic violence shelter.
Sanctuary staff and volunteers, including three Girl Scout troops, set up donation stations at Kroger stores in Hopkinsville, Madisonsville, and Powderly. They engaged with shoppers and requested donations based on a curated shopping list, which included non-perishable foods, personal care and hygiene items, baby diapers and wipes, cleaning supplies, and monetary contributions. During the seven-hour event, hundreds of shoppers generously donated a total of 628 pantry and personal care items to the shelter.
Sanctuary Director Heather Lancaster expressed her gratitude to the staff, donors, and volunteers for making this one of the shelter’s most successful events and possibly the biggest Shop and Share in years. She acknowledged that everyone, regardless of the size of their contribution, played a crucial role in supporting and serving survivors of domestic violence.
Statewide, the Shop and Share raised a total of over $371,000 in monetary and in-kind donations, according to the ZeroV Facebook page.
Money and items collected will go to the 15 domestic violence shelters in Kentucky.
