Two men arrested on stolen firearm charges and other offenses after a January assault investigation in Hopkinsville were among several indictments returned by the Christian County Grand Jury Friday.
Separate true bills were returned on Kerrie Waddell and Lamareonte Lewis, both of Hopkinsville, who were each charged with receiving stolen property, a firearm. Additionally, Waddell was indicted on charges of strangulation and criminal mischief, while Lewis was indicted on possession of marijuana while armed and possession of drug paraphernalia offenses.
The pair were arrested in January after Hopkinsville Police responded Moores Court where officers reported Waddell choked a woman during a fight over him not being allowed to stay at the home. He then reportedly took her phone and threw it over a fence, damaging the phone. Police said Waddell fled the area and was located on Hazel Street where he was found in possession of two stolen guns. Police also arrested Lewis who was inside the home at the time.
The grand jury also indicted Darius Johnson on multiple charges including burglary, fleeing or evading police on foot, assault of a police officer, resisting arrest, criminal mischief, possession of a controlled substance, and alcohol intoxication.
The charges stem from December 20, 2023, when Christian County Sheriff’s deputies responded to Woodland Heights on Greenville Road to locate Johnson, who had previously been trespassed from the complex. Deputies said Johnson jumped out of a window on the second story and ran. He was reportedly found hiding in an apartment where he resisted arrest and allegedly assaulted an officer.
And a true bill was returned on Jerry Gilcrease, of Olmstead, on one count of first-degree rape that occurred on December 3, 2023, according to the indictment.
