Officials with Christian County Public Schools announced Wednesday the hiring of Leigh Ann Stewart to serve as principal of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Early Learning Center.
She begins July 1.
Set to be located at the current Indian Hills Elementary before the 2024-25 school year, it will be the home to district preschool and the Inspire Early Learning Academy. Stewart is currently the assistant principal at Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary.
CCPS Assistant Superintendent Jessica Addison said that Stewart has served in a variety of capacities in her tenure with Christian County Public Schools, and is always stepping up to whatever task is assigned. She and district leadership “have no doubt” Stewart will step into this role…with the same enthusiasm and leadership for which she is known.
Holding a bachelor’s in elementary education, a minor in early childhood and a master’s degree in reading and language arts from Austin Peay State University, Stewart also completed her Rank 1 in curriculum and instruction with Indiana Wesleyan and a master’s degree in school administration with Murray State University.
Her education career has been spent entirely with CCPS, serving as teacher and curriculum specialist at Lacy and Belmont Elementary Schools, as assistant principal with Millbrooke and MLK, and served as the school improvement administrator at Freedom and MLK Elementary Schools.
She also served as a school administrator at Cumberland Hall.
In a written statement, Stewart noted “CCPS’s vision to invest in high quality early care and education for the community has become a reality.”
She is a lifelong resident of Christian County, a graduate from Christian County High School, and is married to Mike, with whom she has two daughters: Alivia and Audrey.
