Alongside local officials and interested dignitaries Thursday afternoon, Newburgh, Indiana’s father-son combo of Pete and Kyle Schuck cut the Trigg County Chamber of Commerce ribbon on the anticipated Stonegate subdivision — fully signifying the 48-plot build is open for business.

And here at the onset, business is apparently good.

The blue ranch-style 1,400-square-foot spec house, located closest to U.S. 68/80, went under contract earlier this week for less than $250,000, and it has a closing date set for early May. The tan two-story spec house behind it, approaching 1,900 square feet in size, needs another four weeks or so before it’s furnished and ready for showing. And the lot directly behind it will have ground broken next week.

Pete laughed and told the small crowd: “Only 45 more to go.”

Kyle said he and his dad were more than pleased to be in the community.

Looping gravel roads have long been laid, giving shape to the property, and a massive lagoon looms inside a constructed chain link fence.

It’s this lagoon that’s brought the most questions from the public and the Cadiz-Trigg County Planning Commission, but its design was intended for rapid evaporation. Kyle said the questions were understandable, but its construction went well.

He also noted the lagoon “will hold water, and will be a clean water source area.”

Trigg County Chamber President Eunice Stone offered words of encouragement.

Both Pete and Kyle have been consistent in messaging, noting both Thursday and at the last Cadiz-Trigg County Planning Commission meeting that Phase I construction will involve the building of 10 more houses after the first two sell, and for all 48 lots be constructed and developed in the next 2-to-5 years.
