Good music and good food filled the West Cadiz Park during this past Saturday’s Little River Festival.
A large crowd, however, did not.
That’s according to Director of Guest Services Jamie Lewis, who Tuesday afternoon reported to the Cadiz-Trigg County Tourist & Convention Commission that cold weather usurped advertising efforts and strong promises from vendors.
Board member Susan Bryant and Executive Director Bill Stevens also shared thoughts.
The April 6 opening of the 2024 Cadiz Cruz-In, however, was the exact opposite. Lewis said warm weather, coupled with the honoring of “Jesse Thomas Day,” brought out more than 100 registered cars along Main Street, setting expectations relatively high for the rest of the year.
In other tourism news:
— With Harper House proprietor Nelson Green now part of the Cadiz-Trigg County Tourist & Convention Commission, Bryant offered another public apology regarding the eatery’s restaurant tax agreements.
— Drew Hudgins, webmaster for GoCadiz.com and founder of Hudge Factor Agency, told Green and fellow board member Matt Ladd that the website continues to be a massive engine of promotion and outside interest, particularly through online search engine optimization.
— Stevens and Lewis also noted more than 1,100 tourism packets of Cadiz-Trigg County information were requested and mailed out in March alone — clearly denoting the late spring and early summer months could be busy with visitors in south western Kentucky.
