Christian County Public Schools officials are narrowing down how the Prichard Committee Community School grant funding will be spent. At the second Community Schools Collaborative Leadership meeting Tuesday night, Director of Full Service Community Schools Nicole Poindexter says asked the group to look at the data surrounding the two schools and weigh in.
click to download audioThe attendees were split into two groups: Christian County High School and Freedom Elementary School. After debating and narrowing the list to five areas of focus for the Community Schools to target, the groups then chose their top three options. For Freedom Elementary, those were parent involvement, Kindergarten readiness, and behavior.
Poindexter and the leadership group saw the increase in Kindergarten readiness over the last few years as a positive.

click to download audioThe next Community Schools Collaborative meeting will be on May 21 at 6 pm at Virginia Street Baptist Church. Poindexter says anyone who was unable to attend Tuesday night’s meeting but would like to offer input, can reach out to her. As part of the grant CCHS and Freedom will receive $75,000 the first year of the grant and $65,000 the following four years to implement a community-driven atmosphere and break down barriers for students and families.
