Trigg Countians used to be able to hear the train a-comin’, rollin’ round the bend.
And in order to recreate that history, Gus Puth and Ed Smith dedicated countless hours to building the new Cadiz Railroad display for the Trigg County Historical and Transportation Museum.
Now, their efforts are being kindly honored once more.
Last week, Historical Society President Bob Brame, Puth and Smith were notified by the Kentucky Historical Society of both being nominated and selected for a 2024 Kentucky History Award — one of the state’s most prestigious honors.
As such, the trio has been invited to the 9 AM June 1 awards ceremony at the Thomas D. Clark Center in Frankfort — better known as Kentucky History Day.
Puth, a retired train engineer, and Smith spent more than 18 months recreating a model scale path in stunning accuracy from downtown Cadiz to Gracey. And it’s now on display on the second floor of the museum, alongside the Between the Rivers stories.
This is the second straight year Trigg County has been tied to the awards show, as Paul Fourshee and Kim Fortner attended the 2023 breakfast gala and honored for their book: “On This Day,” which reflected on the bicentennial.
