The Cadiz walking trail will remain closed between the 5-way stop behind the school and Line Street for the next few months as work continues to install a new sewer line.
Public Works Director Craig Oakley said about 2,000 feet of 10-inch clay tile sewer line is being replaced by a new 15-inch PVC line. He said that section serves as a main trunk line for the entire city and not just the area in and around the adjacent school.
Although work is progressing, Oakley told Cadiz City Council rocks are adding some challenge to the project.
The work is Phase III of a sewer line replacement project that began at the downtown sewer plant and will now extend east to the 5-way intersection on Lafayette Street.
The estimated cost of the project was $575,000. However, two bids received by the City were between $979,000 and $1.3 million. They were both rejected last summer with the City deciding to do the installation work themselves.
Oakley said at any time between three and five workers are working on the project, however, that comes as other city projects and daily work must be completed. He is hoping the project is completed and the walking trail reopened by the fall.
