A graduate of Trigg County High School, Hopkinsville Middle School’s Site-Based Decision Making Council has affirmed Andrew Goins as principal of the institution — just three months after he accepted the role on an interim basis.

HMS’s SBDM met with Superintendent Chris Bentzel, and after consultation was in full agreement with Bentzel’s choice to hire him.

In a written statement, Bentzel said Goins possessed “strong leadership abilities,” and was “an excellent choice to lead the middle school” — having worked hard to establish culture at HMS, and to lead the building through the current facilities transition.

Employed with CCPS since 2013, he has 14 years of educational experience coming with him in the role. He’s been an assistant principal at both Freedom Elementary and Hopkinsville High School, and prior to administration served as a history teacher at HHS.

Goins said this upcoming school year will bring “lots of changes for HMS,” with a new building and the welcoming of entering fresh sixth graders a priority.

Also a graduate of Murray State University and University of the Cumberlands, Goins has two master’s degrees in education. He and his wife, Amanda, have one daughter: Alivia.
