Saying that the past few weeks at Lake Barkley State Resort Park have been rough would be putting it mildly.

During Tuesday afternoon’s Cadiz-Trigg County Tourist and Convention Commission meeting, Park Manager and board member Ashley Joiner thanked the local hotels who helped them following power outages.

The park has dealt with two major power outages – the first came during the severe weather events that impacted western Kentucky on Sunday, May 26th. Power to the park was not restored until Friday, May 31st.

The second outage came last weekend when a utility provider’s truck slid into a power pole near the park Friday afternoon. This time, power was only out for about 12 hours, being fully restored in the early morning hours on Saturday.

Both times guests staying at the park were evacuated and many were able to stay in other hotels in Cadiz and nearby. The park is only equipped with generators that keep electricity on to coolers/freezers for the Windows on the Water restaurant and the front desk.

Joiner also reminded commissioners that the upcoming fireworks show at Lake Barkley’s beach is scheduled for Saturday, July 6th, with activities planned from 2:00 to 10:00 PM. The event, sponsored by the Cadiz-Trigg County Tourist and Convention Commission, is set for Saturday to attract more visitors to the region and help boost the local economy.
