The case of an Oak Grove man charged with murder continues to limp along at a slow pace with another continuance granted in Christian County Circuit Court on Wednesday.
Rudolfo Amaya is accused of the March 2023 shooting death of 43-year-old Dante Welch along New Gritton Avenue in Oak Grove.
Amaya’s attorney — Doug Moore — informed the court earlier this year that he plans to use a mental illness defense with another mental health evaluation planned via Zoom conference to expedite the process.
Oak Grove Police said Amaya shot Welch following a dispute over loud music. The two were neighbors. Police also reported that Welch was sitting in a vehicle when he was shot twice in the head by Amaya, with Welch’s child in the back seat.
Circuit Judge John Atkins scheduled a follow-up court date for July 10.
