Beshear: May 26 Damage Assessments Underway for Federal Disaster Declaration Request

Governor Andy Beshear provided an update on Thursday regarding the state’s ongoing response to the storms that swept across western Kentucky on May 26.

During his Team Kentucky Update, Gov. Beshear said that Joint Preliminary Damage assessments are underway in the counties affected by the tornadoes and the severe storms on that day in order to submit a federal disaster declaration request.

click to download audioAs a reminder, Gov. Beshear urged impacted Kentuckians to contact their insurance carriers, keep detailed records of any expenses incurred, and photograph damages and repairs.

click to download audioBeshear also reported that Pennyrile Forest State Resort Park is currently providing shelter for 12 families who were displaced by the tornadoes in communities near Dawson Springs.

click to download audioThe Governor also announced a sixth person has died because of the severe weather on May 26, that resulted from a car accident in Laurel County. The other five deaths included: a 54-year old Caldwell County man who died of a heart attack while cutting fallen trees; a 48-year old woman in Hopkins County, a 34-year old man in Jefferson County, a 62-year old woman in Hardin County, and a 67-year old woman from Mercer County.
