Despite all the streets renamed over the last year in Hopkinsville, the City does not have a policy in place. Thursday night, City Council discussed what a policy would look like. Public Works Superintendent, Mike Perry says the draft policy takes residents into consideration.

click to download audioAs outlined by Perry, the policy would not allow streets to be named after living residents. However, Councilwoman Natasha Francis moved to remove that stipulation. The motion passed 5-4 with Doug Wilcox, Jamie Lienberger, Matthew Handy, Don Marsh, and Francis voting in favor. The amended policy is headed to City Council.
In other business, departments went over their first-quarter reports. Fire Chief Steve Futtrell says the Code Enforcement is doing a great job and has overseen several demolition projects.
