The University Heights Academy Blazers track and field team was well represented on the Area 1 Team.
Four athletes and three relay teams were honored by the coaches of the schools in the far-western part of the state.
Griffin McCoy was named Class 1A All-Area First Team in the 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash and Class 1A All-Area Second Team in the Long Jump.
McCoy earned an eighth-place medal at the Class 1A State Meet with a personal best time in the 100 meters and was ninth in the 200 meters. He finished second at the region in the high jump.
Cole Glover, who attended the Gatton Academy during his senior season and was not allowed to run for UHA while his classes were in session, joined the Blazers once he graduated. He was named Class 1A All-Area First Team in the 3200 meters and Second Team in the 1600 meters.
Clayton Lester was fourth at the region in the 400-meter run and was named to the Class 1A All-Area Second Team.
Aaron Onate finished in third place at the region meet in the shot put and was named to the Class 1A All-Area Second Team
Griffin McCoy teamed with Harlow Hampton, Ryan Luckey, and Clayton Lester to finish as state runner-up in the 400-meter relay at the Class 1A State Track and Field Meet. Their squad was named First Team All-Area for all classes and named to the Class 1A All-Area First Team.
The same group finished in seventh place in the 1600-meter relay. Their time of 3:31.85 was a season-best and third fastest in school history. They were named Second Team All-Area for all classes and named to the Class 1A All-Area First Team.
UHA’s 3200-meter relay team was named to the Class 1A All-Area Second Team.
