A Clarksville man was charged with criminal possession of a forged instrument after an investigation into a check he attempted to cash in Hopkinsville Friday afternoon.

Hopkinsville Police say they were called to a bank on Clinic Drive for a stolen check that 55-year-old Eric Taylor was attempting to cash for $2,175.

The check reportedly appeared to be from Kentucky Organic Farm and Feed in Guthrie but police say after talking with them it was for a different amount and had been put in their mailbox earlier in the day for an Indiana company.

Taylor reportedly claimed he had worked for the company but gave officers multiple different names for the company. Police say after talking with his mother she stated he didn’t work and has been disabled for years.

Taylor was arrested and charged with first-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument.
