Marshall Eugene White, affectionately known as “Monnie” was born January 14, 1949, in Hopkinsville, Kentucky. His parents were the late Carmel White, Ida Mae Pettus Northington, and Reverend Robert Grafton Pettus.
He passed away at 1:55 p.m. Wednesday, June 12, 2024, at 75, while visiting Louisville, Ky.
He accepted Christ as his personal savior at 11 years old uniting by baptism on November 13, 1960, with the First Street Baptist Church under the pastorate of Reverend B. F. Green.
Marshall was a graduate of Attucks High School and Western Kentucky University where he excelled with honors. He helped chapter the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Incorporated at the university along with eleven other members in 1969.
Marshall was employed as an Air Traffic Controller at large airports in various cities including Memphis, and Atlanta, and finally retired in Orlando, Florida.
Marshall loved fishing, and playing basketball and traveled extensively with his two Afghans to many dog shows.
Cherishing his memories are two sisters, JoAnne Hamilton and Mary Pettus Rowland both of Paducah, KY; a sister-in-law, Delores Wardelle of Louisville, KY; several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and cousins.
Marshall was also preceded in death by three brothers, Robert Wardelle Jr, Thomas Ray (Truck) Pettus, Patrick White and one sister Hallie White; Grandparents, Ross and Edna Kendrick Metcalfe, Rev T.M Pettus, and Elgie Minor Pettus.
Funeral services will be held at noon on Monday, June 24, 2024, at Gamble Funeral Home of Hopkinsville, KY with Rev. C.E. Timberlake presiding. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the funeral hour.
