The U.S. Supreme Court has disbarred former Christian County Commonwealth’s Attorney Rick Boling following a series of professional misconduct allegations.
Multiple media sources are reporting the high court issued a summary order Monday, finalizing Boling’s disbarment after he failed to provide sufficient reasons within the 40 days granted in February to contest the action.
Boling’s legal troubles began to escalate in 2023 when the Kentucky Supreme Court suspended him from practicing law in the state for five years. This suspension stemmed from multiple incidents of professional misconduct, including a request to then-Governor Matt Bevin. Boling had sought a pardon for Dayton Jones, who was convicted of sodomizing an unconscious teenage boy, a move that drew lots of attention.
Additionally, Boling faced sanctions for misleading a jury during Karen Brafman’s arson and manslaughter trial. The mounting controversies eventually led Boling to resign from his position to avoid impeachment proceedings by the Kentucky House.
While the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision bars Boling from practicing law in federal courts, he has not been disbarred in Kentucky.
