The 2024 Western Kentucky State Fair beef show, that was held Saturday night, was dedicated to the late Tim Henderson for his many years of involvement with the show.
Former show participants gathered with show participants from this year’s beef show at the conclusion of the activities Saturday, June 29th, to dedicate the show to Henderson, who passed away in April.
Henderson grew up showing cattle at the Western Kentucky State Fair as a youth participant in 4-H. Later as a member of the Western Kentucky State Fair Board Henderson was instrumental in keeping interest alive in the livestock shows and was on the board when the new livestock pavilion was constructed and dedicated in recent years.
Not only was Henderson an active participant in the beef show over the years, but when his daughter Mary Katherine Henderson was old enough to show cattle, he and his wife Melissa and their families worked hard to give Mary Katherine the same opportunity Tim had.
On hand for Saturday night’s dedication were Melissa and Mary Katherine Henderson, members of their family, and several friends of Tim’s who grew up and participated in livestock shows and other youth activities with him over the years.
Tim was back in the show ring a few years ago at the Western Kentucky State Fair when he and several of his fellow former beef show participants competed for fun in an adult class of showmanship. As he was during his youth, Tim placed high in the finals of the adult class.
