James Mitchell

A Hopkinsville man was arrested on drug charges following a Friday traffic stop on the Butler Road.

40-year-old James Mitchell was stopped by detectives with the Christian County Sheriff’s Office Anti-Crime Unit for driving recklessly.

Deputies said an odor of marijuana was coming from the vehicle and a police K-9 alerted on the driver’s side of the vehicle. The report said synthetic marijuana, marijuana, and about 71 grams of suspected meth were found.

After the traffic stop, officers with the Probation and Parole Department did a check of Mitchell’s residence and found a revolver in an unsecured safe. The report said Mitchell is a convicted felon and unable to possess a firearm.

Mitchell was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of synthetic drugs, first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon and several traffic offenses.
