Store Security Check Leads to Foot Chase With Police

A Hopkinsville Police officer who stopped to make a routine check at a convenience store ended up in a foot pursuit that ended with the arrest of a Herndon man.

Sgt. Mike Felts said he got out at the Dodge Store on West 7th Street just before midnight Monday to check on the clerks inside and noticed 39-year-old Richard Anderson walking away from the front of the store quickly and then running behind the Dollar General Store next door.

Sgt. Felts found Anderson hiding behind a dumpster. He was taken into custody with an investigation determining Anderson had an active warrant. The report said a search of the immediate area where Anderson was hiding yielded a baggie of synthetic marijuana.

Anderson was lodged in the Christian County Jail on charges of second-degree fleeing police and possession of synthetic marijuana in addition to the warrant charge of parole violation.
