A Hopkinsville man who pled guilty to an amended charge of second-degree manslaughter last month was sentenced to seven years in prison Wednesday afternoon in Christian County Circuit Court.
Robert Torain III was charged with the 2019 shooting and murder of 25-year-old Terrill Moore following a verbal argument while both were passengers in a vehicle on McHenry Street.
Moore’s parents were allowed to address both the court and Torain before the sentencing.
Walter Victor told Torain his actions were something he was going to have to live with.

click to download audioSpecial Prosecutor Dennis Foust acknowledged Torain would be parole-eligible immediately due to his time already spent in Christian County Jail since his arrest five years ago and asked the court to make Torain serve the full seven years.
Judge Andrew Self said he was limited in the prison sentence he could hand down in the case.
click to download audioTorain saw two previous trials end with a mistrial. In 2023, a hung jury was declared when jurors could not reach a consensus on the verdict.
A second trial ended in April when Foust was questioning a witness who disclosed information that had previously been ruled inadmissible at trial.
The Department of Corrections will determine how much time in jail Torain will be given credit for and applied to the seven-year sentence.
