Superintendent Booth Shares Vision With Cadiz Rotary Club

Less than a month until the start of the 2024-25 academic year, the Cadiz Rotary Club heard from new Trigg County School Superintendent Rex Booth Tuesday afternoon — a welcoming conversation opening lanes of discussion about his arrival and the district’s future.

In his role, it’s uncommon to be younger than 40 years old.

As a 2005 graduate of Edmonson County High School, however, he’s done everything at a young age: head basketball coach at 23, school counselor at 27, high school principal at 32.

And he thinks that gives him an advantage — because he’s still connected to the people he’s serving.

With so much experience already in his folder, Booth could have taken that next career leap anywhere in the Commonwealth.

Once again asked “Why Trigg County?” — he reiterated this community is “a sleeping giant” with plenty to offer, most of it related to tourism and recreation, and I-24 passing right through the area.

In the interview process, he also enjoyed having the entire district on one campus, creating a more family feel, and he wanted to be in a place where his own family could grow in the classroom.

Furthermore, and perhaps selfishly, getting closer to his wife’s family, the Gipson’s of Marshall County, made too much sense, and Booth said “board-willing”…this probably needed to be one of the “last moves” of his vocation.

Leaving Russellville, however, wasn’t easy.

With so much to take in these first few weeks, Booth said the job right now is like “drinking from a fire hydrant” with little signs of slowing, and time will only move faster beginning in August following the 12:30-2:30 PM August 2 open house of the new CTE remodel — where Governor Andy Beshear is expected to attend.

Another major platform on his plate: the fact House Bill 2 — proposing language asking the public to vote in favor, or against, public funds to private schools — arrives on ballots this November.

Booth said he and his family have been traveling back and forth at least twice-a-day from Cadiz and Russellville, and they will be moving to this area August 5.

Another date to remember: Trigg County’s “Meet & Greet” is scheduled for 6 PM July 23 at the Co-Curricular building, and will involve all new hired faculty.
