While the month of June ended up being slightly slower than usual for the Cadiz Police Department, two things will soon be keeping the unit busy through the rest of July and early August.
Hiring new employees. And “Pack The Patrol Car” school supply collections.
The CPD is currently accepting applications for two positions open now for some time: police officer, either a new hire or lateral transfer, and school resource officer.
Required to have a high school diploma or equivalent, as well as a valid operator’s license, applicants must also have a clean criminal record, be a certified peace officer in Kentucky or reciprocal state, and/or be prepared for training at the academy in Richmond.
Officer and SRO salaries are between $49,900 and $60,000, plus a $4,300 KLEFPF incentive with overtime and educational opportunities. There are 17 paid vacation days, including a paid birthday off work, while SRO’s can enter into the comp-time program with summer breaks off duty.
The officer position works four 10-hour shifts, and employee insurance is covered by the city at no cost. Family insurance plans are available, as well, and all required equipment is supplied alongside a take-home vehicle within a 35-mile radius of the Cadiz city limits.
“Pack The Patrol Car,” meanwhile, will allow community members to donate school supplies to be handing out free of charge to the Cadiz and Trigg County community.
There are three ways to donate:
1) On August 9, visit the Dollar General on Main Street in Cadiz, and donate to help fill the vehicle.
2) Offer monetary donations, which will then be used to purchase the most needed school supplies on Trigg County’s district lists.
3) Donate from the comfort of your home, by visiting the Cadiz PD wishlist on Amazon.com, and that link can be found on their Facebook page.

Also, in a recent visit with the Cadiz City Council, Thomas said June involved the investigation of 31 cases, four arrests, 524 calls for service, 45 traffic stops made, 23 citations issued, 16 alarm calls answered and nine collisions — one of which resulted injury.
