Former Daycare Worker Pleads Guilty to Abuse Charges

A former Hopkinsville daycare employee reached a mediation agreement in Christian County Circuit Court on Tuesday.

Deshayla Day is a former First Baptist Church Daycare employee who was originally charged with first-degree criminal abuse.

She was accused of lifting a 16-month-old child by one arm from a classroom and into a hallway and then grabbing the child’s face. The child was taken to Jennie Stuart Medical Center to be treated and evaluated for visible injuries, according to Hopkinsville Police.

Day entered a guilty plea to two counts of second-degree criminal abuse — a Class D felony. The Commonwealth recommended five years in prison on each count to run concurrently for a total of five years.

Sentencing for Day is set for September 4.
