Hopkinsville Ends Fiscal Year With Surplus

The City of Hopkinsville is ending the 2023-2024 fiscal year in good standing. Tuesday night, Chief Financial Officer Melissa Clayton gave City Council her monthly financial report, which consisted of year-end numbers.

Clayton says the four major revenues for the city were up.

click to download audioThe Insurance premium tax was up 11.2 percent over the previous year, and business licenses totaled over $5 million for the year.

Clayton says the $2.3 million surplus will be split between several projects.

click to download audioThe remaining 25 percent will be put in the general fund reserve.

In other business, Council voted to draft two new zoning ordinances – one for the area of Major Lane and Old Major Lane and the other for property owned by the county next to the Jail on Younglove Street.

Council also approved second readings of the new zoning regulations for the potential development of farm land and the second reading of the bond oridnance for the Fire Station 5 and an unnamed EDC project.
