Elizabeth Vernell Sowell, 92, died Thursday July 18, 2024 of natural causes at Carrick Glen Assisted Living and Memory Care in Mt. Juliet, TN.
Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, July 21, 2024 at Riverside Cemetery. Hughart, Beard & Giles Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
A native of Christian County, she was born February 11, 1932 the daughter of the Harley O. and Flossie S. Thomas. She graduated from Bethel Women’s College and Austin Peay State University. She taught elementary school in Christian County, retiring in 1989. She loved to sew and work in her flower beds. She was an active member of Hopkinsville First United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband Charles L Sowell; and her sister: Monnie Kate Perry.
Survivors include her son: Michael (Rita) Sowell of Mt. Juliet TN; and her daughter Beth Nicely of Nashville TN; her grandchildren Nathan (Meghan) Sowell, Uri (Lauren) Sowell, Sally (Mac) McCloud and Ross Nicely; and nine great grandchildren.
Memorial contributions are suggested to First United Methodist Church.
