With a chance to contend for the 2nd Region All A Classic volleyball title seemingly in line this season, the Heritage Christian Academy Lady Warriors got the chance to get some preseason work against some of the state’s top teams at the annual Bluegrass State Games over the weekend in Lexington. The Lady Warriors are entering their second season as a full member of the KHSAA.
Action got underway Friday with the first of two days of pool play. The Lady Warriors opened the weekend with a straight-set win over Calloway County, winning 21-15 and 21-14.
Up next was a match against 4th Region foe Warren East. The Lady Raiders, who won 31 matches last season and reached the regional semifinals, took this one in straight sets, 21-16 and 21-6.
HCA was back on the court Saturday morning for the second day of pool play. The day started off with a matchup against defending 5th Region champion Central Hardin. The Lady Bruins came away with the win 21-10, 21-12.
The Lady Warriors’ second match of the day found them taking on Lexington Catholic. HCA dropped this one in straight sets 21-11 and 21-6.
Saturday wrapped up for the Lady Warriors with a match against Great Crossing. Great Crossing came away with the win 21-11, 21-10.
With the results from Friday and Saturday, Heritage Christian was placed in the Varsity Flight 4 bracket on Sunday. There the Lady Warriors would face Newport Central Catholic, who had advanced with an opening round win over Whitefield Academy.
The Lady Warriors would put up a battle but would ultimately fall in straight sets 21-15, 21-17.
