A western Kentucky native and multi-Grammy and GMA Award-winning artist will soon be the newest member of the Grand Ole Opry.

During Saturday night’s live show, Cordell, Kentucky native Ricky Skaggs invited Steven Curtis Chapman, from Paducah, to be the newest member of the famed ‘Home of Country Music.’

Music Row Magazine reports that with Chapman’s 50 No. 1 hits, he is the most-awarded artist in Christian music history. He made his Opry debut 42 years ago at age 19 when he was a performer at Opryland Theme Park.

Chapman’s Grand Ole Opry induction date has not been announced. There are 74 Grand Ole Opry members, mainly composed of country music stars.
