The Christian County School District along with the Chamber of Commerce will hold a ribbon cutting on Wednesday at the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Early Learning Center, located in the former Indian Hills Elementary building at 313 Blane Drive.
Johnna Brown, director of communications for the school district, said the new building will host a preschool and the Inspire Childcare Center.

click to download audioThe new MLK Early Learning Center is part of a transition of three schools and the Inspire Early Learning Academy since the end of the last school year.
With the new learning center housed in the former Indian Hills Elementary School, Brown said Indian Hills has moved to the former Hopkinsville Middle School building on Kaufman Drive.
click to download audioThe changes came after the school board voted last year to return fifth graders to the elementary schools.
The former Indian Hills Elementary School had a capacity of 520 students. The new Indian Hills building will have a capacity of 800 students.
The 900 or so Hopkinsville Middle School students will move to the MLK Jr. building, which now has a capacity of nearly 900 students according to the facilities plan.
Brown said students in the former MLK Elementary School building have been redistricted to South Christian, Pembroke, or Freedom Elementary School.
