About three weeks ago, concerned Trigg County citizens with keen interest in the development and sustaining of a community war memorial near Vinson Cemetery convened at the Trigg County Recreation Complex — working feverishly behind the scenes to discuss the designing, financing and implementing of the property’s vision.
That’s according to Judge-Executive Stan Humphries, who Monday night delivered an update to magistrates about the process in this moment — and revealed the development team as it stands now.
Phase One, Humphries noted, will include the creating of a Blackhawk Crash Memorial near the further western portion corner close to US 68 and KY 272.
Once completed, Humphries added organizers will turn their attention to the other side of Vinson Cemetery toward Cadiz — where a community garden, and some sort of educational facade, will be installed.
Humphries told the court that he feels like more monies will come in over time to help with the buildout, and that the fund will be separated away from the fiscal court coffer — but will likely be overseen by local officials.
The group will next meet August 20, again at the Complex, and a couple of designs are already floating around the committee. Humphries said the community will likely be involved on a path forward for the memorial’s final looks.
Elsewhere with infrastructure discussions:
— Magistrates unanimously approved both the chip & seal and paving plans for the 2024-25 fiscal year.
Humphries said the sought chip & seal operations were a culmination of the transportation committee’s efforts to research and understand constituent needs.
Meanwhile, two of the roads Trigg Countians need paved — nearly three miles of Crossroads School Road and one mile of Ridge Drive — will need to be approved by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet and state road department, and will require use of FLEX funds and a percentage of rural secondary funding.
The rest, Humphries said, will come from received county road aid monies.
— Humphries also mentioned that Pennyrile Electric’s Alan Gates will be offering a fiber internet update to the fiscal court soon, as the HES/PRECC build-out in Trigg County has slowed behind current roadblocks and a need for additional funding.
American Rescue Plan Act funds helped begin the project after 2020.
