The Pennyrile Walk to End Alzheimer’s event may still be nearly two months away, but donations are being accepted for this year’s fundraising goal.
Chairwoman Ashton Winfield told Your News Edge the event is on Saturday morning, October 5th, beginning at 9:00, at the Christian County Justice Center. She encouraged those interested in participating to form a team at Alz.org.
Winfields added the annual event means a lot to her and her family.
Funds raised each year support research for Alzheimer’s, which currently has no cure, but promising strides are being made each year. According to recent studies, 12.4% of Christian County residents over the age of 65 have been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, one of the highest rates in Kentucky.
As of Tuesday morning, the regional effort had raised 36 percent toward its $60,000 goal.
