A man wanted in connection to a shooting in Elizabethtown Monday morning was captured in Christian County following a police chase.

The News Edge’s John Godsey was on the scene and said the chase and eventual standoff with police ended on Judge’s Chapel Road.

Kentucky State Police identified the man as 46-year-old Christopher Elder, who fled from the Muhlenberg County Sheriff’s Office and stopped on Judges Chapel Road off Greenville Road where he shot himself after a 45-minute-long negotiation process.

Elder was flown to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville for his gunshot wound to the head.

Elizabethtown Police Chief Jeremy Thompson said Elder shot 37-year-old Erica Riley of Elizabethtown and her mother, 71-year-old Janey Riley of Hardinsburg. Police said both women died. A man with them was also shot and taken to a hospital.

Court records showed Erica Riley and Elder were scheduled for a 9:00 hearing in Hardin County District Court regarding domestic and interpersonal violence with Chief Thompson saying Riley and Elder had been dating. Police said Erica Riley had two children with her at the time of the shooting.

Several law enforcement agencies joined in the pursuit including the Muhlenberg County Sheriff’s Office, Kentucky State Police, The Christian County Sheriff’s Office, Hopkinsville Police, Greenville Police, and The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
